Script Assignment for the second round

So, I will be writing a horror movie. My assignment is:

Genre: Horror

Subject: Tourism

Character: A prisoner

I have already rejected several ideas, which is a big part of the process. I really don't want to use the same idea that everyone else uses. My friend pointed out that the Shining fits this descriptions pretty well. I was thinking Westworld. Alcatraz would be a good setting, but there is a television series coming soon that uses that as a main part of the show.

So where do I take it. I thought about a wax museum, where the prisoner is someone who isn't dead, but is forced to be a wax statue, but that has been done I think. There is the fun house. Thomas suggested avoiding the torture porn that has been common in movies of late. Hostel and Tourista fit this assignment well. I really need to get a good idea and then focus on the conflict and the character.

I only have 3 days, so I can't dwell on it for long. I'll sleep on it, and then hit it hard in the morning. I glanced at the other assignments and this is as good as any of them. Maybe it's better because many people will go for the cliched approach and I can stand out by being unique. I think that helped me in the last round.

A prisoner. hmm. Protagonist? Antagonist? Evil? Good but trapped?

I wonder. Could there someday be tours into hell? Maybe not the traditional hell, but a hell of some sort. Good people go there to get a good look at what they are avoiding by being good. The prisoner would be someone in hell. Maybe the characters try to break the person out of hell, but all hell breaks loose, literally. I'll have to think about that.

  1. I don't really do horror movies, but I love the Hell idea. It sounds very unique.
